Dancing Illustrated A-Z
For keeping fit, relaxing and socialising - dance is an excellent hobby to take up.
The page includes a selection of types for people who dance or might be thinking about it. Some dances require partners and others are more solo performance art.
So whatever your taste in melody, movement and fashion - let's face the music and dance!
Ballet
A graceful and strenuous dance form - ballet is a demanding skill.
Few make it from junior ballet school into the professional circuit. From there is it hard demanding work to become a member of a prestigious ballet company.
Baton Twirling
Precision movements as part of a team and the need to keep smiling even during the trickier parts.
Belly Dancing
This is usually a solo performance with a lady in revealing clothing combining dance movements with sex appeal. And they call the West decadent!
The dance required much studying in order to get the picture looking right.
Cheerleading
Cheerleading is not just for ladies - men can do this fun activity too.
Although the traditional image is of an all girl cheerleading team dancing on the touchline while all American jocks run up and down a pitch with a football.
Here is a happy cheerleader with pom poms - leaping in the air and supporting the team.
Go team, go!
Hula Dancing
This is a proper dance somewhat lost in cultural appropriation and tourist desires over the years. For most Westerners some gentle swaying, warm weather and rum will help.
Jazz Hands
It should be jazz dancing but this is the nearest image I have. A fun way to express silent applause.
Maypole Dancing
Each dancer holds a ribbon and dances in and out around the pole.
A traditional Spring dance to celebrate the end of the winter and the new growing season.
Morris Dancing
Pole Dancing
Salsa
Voguing
Throwing shapes and athletic poses in a mish-mash of ballroom styles, voguing is ideal for expressing power, individuality and freedom of expression.
Making a political statement through dance with attention getting moves - vogue is a cool way to sock it to the old guard.
Madonna ripped off the Vogue movement for a while before she moved on to the next five minute thing.
The Dance is Over
That is all the dance moves I got. Lots more to come as they get drawn. The fun of music, exercise, suppleness, fashion and that all-round good feeling that comes from letting your body move - that's dancing.
