Ecology Designs
Green means Ecology or saving the planet. That sounds a bit grand. It is about awareness, both of politics and small actions we can all take.
You can protest on the streets or pick up some litter, it's all good. Turning off the heating, driving less, even just being aware helps.
Here are some Ecology designs that try to make the point.
Animal Rebellion
Animal activist designs often show appalling treatment of animals. The images may be effective but they do nothing to improve the spirit of people.
The design shown is intended to be humorous and make the point in a friendly and acceptable way for all sensibilities.
Well-meaning campaigns can leave normal people behind when they strive for shock tactics. Protest, care about animals and cut down eating meat is all you need.
Incidentally - although Animal Rebellion may seem new - the message has been around since the Sixties. Not much has changed.
Buy Nothing
One of the simplest ways to start saving the planet is to stop consuming. Particularly during those festivals of tat - Halloween and Xmas.
The official Buy Nothing day is the day after Thanksgiving, the same day as Black Friday. But every day can be a Buy Nothing day.
My design is deliberately amateur and hand drawn, more so than usual. It's supposed to look like an anti consumer design. Honestly.
Available for sale because everything is. But at least there's a point to it.
Climate Change
People who argue against it are called Climate Change Deniers which handily makes them sound on the same level as Holocaust Deniers.
This design is pro climate change - ie. we should do something about it. It is by now my usual design using large words and adding graphics - rather than using the graphics alone to make a point.
That is because even highly intelligent people like Climate Change Believers (er scientists) want the message spelt out.
No room for subtlety when you're saving the planet.
Available on tees, mugs and all sorts of planet destroying tat.
Climate Justice
Poor people suffering is hardly a new thing. It has been the case ever since there was a distinction between rich and poor. The power of the Climate Change movement is being harnessed to suggest changes to the worldwide social fabric.
Hence Climate Justice. With the billions being spent on mitigating some of the effects of climate change some of that money needs to support the lowest paid members of the World Community. Climate Change has no borders. Maybe politics should have no borders either.
Eco Warrior
A set of simple images makes the point; no to planes and cars and yes to trees and bees.
This is simplistic imagery but slogans are more powerful when they promote uncomplicated messages.
This eco design was prompted by admiration for green activists, eco protesters, their tactics and enthusiasm for what is unquestionably a good cause.
Unlike the often tired and corrupted forms of political protest, the idea of reducing waste and improving the environment for people, plants and animals is beyond argument.
Extinction Rebellion
Having seen the image at demos on mostly handwritten placards - the hourglass image seemed to be a cool idea for a t-shirt. Some time after creating a design and selling a few tees the creator of the hourglass contacted me.
The Extinction Rebellion hourglass is protected from dirty commercialisation. The whole point of the movement is to reject pointless consumerism. Stealing the idea AND selling tees was a poor thing to do. I apologised and removed all uses of the image.
#fightfor1point5
The bees are included as an obvious ecological symbol and because I like bees.
The point being the climate change fight must continue for those commitments to be met.
For Fox Sake Stop Hunting
Fur Fox Sake consists of big bold lettering with blood red highlights and makes a powerful memorable slogan for anyone who cares about animal rights, freedom and exploitation.
Fracking
It is one more way of extracting every last drop of available fossil fuel. It is possibly dangerous, earthquakes and damage to water tables perhaps, but also profitable. Especially with government subsidies, another bone of contention.
No Logo
Why do people need to walk around with brand names on their t-shirts? It is a mystery to me. The power of advertising.
There are multiple evils connected with brands. Needless consumption for one.
I am not particularly happy with my No Logo design but I'm not planning to spend a million dollars advertising it at the next major sporting event or pop concert.
Perhaps I'll get someone to sponsor me.
Oil
The design below shows sheep like oil supporters marching to their inevitable end. But there is hope. Some people have seen the possibilities of a world without fossil fuels.
The sheep are marching to an Oil sign made of the word with the I replaced by an oil rig.
Plogging
Light litter removal coupled with exercise and socializing it makes a perfect excuse to spend a couple of hours outdoors.
Also called Pliking, pick up litter while hiking, or biking. And Plalking, pick up litter while walking.
Polluted Planet
Recycling Symbol
The addition of red tails for waste and green arrows for recycling are meant to add a little interest and color to the design, and to strengthen its message.
Save Energy
As energy bills threaten to sink households into debt, solutions such as solar and LED lighting, along with the idea of simply using less, are becoming ever more necessary.
Save Energy Panda is a humorous design playing on the natural cuteness and perceived laziness of Pandas, and the all-important Save Energy message.
Save The Bees
Like many creatures they are threatened by human expansion, loss of habitat, chemical pollution and climate change.
The graphic below is an unashamedly positive appeal to "save the bees".
Shop Local
Although local shops find it hard to compete on range and price against the global monopolies they do have a secret weapon. They are local. Product miles are kept to a minimum if you walk to your nearest retail outlet and keep them afloat by making regular purchases.
In a global world there is a sense of self-preservation in looking after your own economy. And it's good for the planet, too.
Sick Earth Design
We need to take more care in how we treat the world.
Solar Power
A high starting cost may deter many but the future is almost here. Perhaps new builds will start to be kitted out with solar energy as a standard or near-standard extra.
An interesting idea is using the electric car battery as a storage for daytime solar and feeding that power back into the house for the evening. My feeling is that prices still need to come down a bit more. The likelihood is that energy costs will continue to rise making solar a more popular solution for those that have room for panels.
Wind Farm
The idea being to make them seem like giant flowers and greener than they already are.
Vegan
Less meat is good for you and the planet. And the animals!
Vote Green
They make little difference and any small change will be undone during the subsequent terms by the new liars. That is how the powerful like it. A sham democratic process to keep the people quiet.
For a peaceful reasonable kind of person there was only one party where voting for them did not make you feel unclean. Sadly the Green Party changed from concentrating solely on Green Issues and in doing so muddied the waters. They need to ensure their focus is solely environmental and forget traditional left/ right political thinking.
The design reflects the most basic of environmental concerns - a tree created from a cloud shape around the "vote" trunk and a green sward beneath.
Sign Off
That is the end of my collection of Ecology based designs.
New ones are created from time to time whenever new issues arise, or if I can think of a new way of saying it.
