Food and Drink
As a hobby, interest or simply just a means to live - food and drink are an essential part of our lives.
Everybody has to eat.
This page celebrates the fun side of eating and drinking - whether it is brewing your own beer or baking delicious home made bread at home. Learning to eat with chopsticks or many other parts of the enjoyment that can come from cooking, brewing and eating.
Each activity has a heading, a line or two of comment and an illustration. They are presented in AZ order and gradually expanded as new pictures are drawn.
I gradually expand also.
Barbecue
The smell of a barbecue is appealing to those attending it, less so if you live next door and particularly when you are not invited.
A fun time can be had at the barbie with friends, drink and good weather.
Beer
Bread Making
Stores sell quality bread for high prices. They also sell flour and yeast.
Bread making is a satisfying hands-on cooking process that gives satisfaction and sustenance.
Give us this day our daily bread is a famous saying and there are many more. It has been a staple food for humans for a long time.
Break making is one small aspect of the art of baking. There is a great variety of goods in a high-street bakery - bread, cakes, pastries, pies.
Broccoli
Broccoli is a superfood. It can fly, and pummel other foods into submission. Potatoes are scared of it, respectful too.
It's OK. If you like the taste of it.
Cake
I asked the internet if cake was a superfood.
Apparently, it isn't.
But, if you put cake on one plate and broccoli on another - I know who would win.
Cheese and Wine
A simple social activity to enjoy with the company of others.

Chef
It would be great to have a chef. "Make me some home-made burgers." Can't think of anything else but that would do.
Chopsticks
Curiously, the one item that was home-produced were the chopsticks - made in Bristol, England.
Why bother trying to eat with chopsticks?
They are fun to learn and unless you are an expert make the food last longer. For a novice they turn the meal experience into more of an event.
Use them for a while then get stuck in with a fork.
Cocktail Making
A mixologist can blend different liquids to create appealing cocktails - using alcohol or not according to age and preference.
Coffee
With or without sugar and milk, with or without company - coffee is the most essential part of breakfast for many bleary eyed office workers.
Cooks and Broth
Here is a fun design to illustrate the well known "too many cooks spoil the broth" expression.
Feta Cheese and Olives
Home Brewing
It involves an interest to learn and become proficient in.
There is expenditure on specialist equipment.
It can take over your life, house and shed.
The end result can be very pleasurable.
There are home brew kits you can buy from the stores, a bucket and yeast basically, or you can get semi serious about it. Some people even go on to make a living from the pursuit.
After all the setting up, preparation, brewing and waiting - it is time to taste the results!
Jam Making
Choose a nice jar, add a hand-written label and create a personal gift for friends.
Jam making is one aspect of the making of preserves and conserving which are part of the canning season.
When the fruits of the season arrive it becomes time to ensure they can be used for months to come until the next harvest.
Ketchup and Fries
Mushrooms
Well, someone slightly irritating obviously but hey, mushrooms are still good.
Noodles
Pineapple
Stir Fry Crazy
So if you like stir fry and get a little crazy in the kitchen...
Too Many Cooks
In practice...
Tractor
And until this site has a separate farming page, this tractor design will have to go here. The tractor being an instantly accessible representation of farming. It is the workhorse of the farm, having largely replaced actual horses.
Maybe when fossil fuel is exhausted or banned, horses will mount a comeback. Until then the tractor reigns supreme.
Wine Tasting
It looks a bit daunting from the outside, having to have a nose and be able to use all those words to describe the bouquet of the wine.
Well, we all have noses. You sniff the wine, sip a bit, make a face and then spit it into a bucket. Or at a social event you would be better to drink it , eat some cheese and enjoy the company.
All The Food In The World
When you order everything on the menu and realise you will never eat it all.
The sort of feeling I have having started a Food and Drink page. I mean, how many illustrations would be sufficient? A hundred? A thousand?
One of those "eyes bigger than my belly" moments.
Maybe one day I'll find a way to organize my output more sensibly.
