AZ Keep Fit Illustrated Activities
Some of these keep fit routines and exercises are cunningly designed to be fun. While your mind is enjoying the process your body feels the benefits. That is the whole idea behind sport and fitness generally - get moving and gain pleasure from the chosen activity.
You may already be doing some of these activities or there may be the odd one that is new to you. It is fun to try out different areas and routines to ease some of the monotony that naturally occur with repeating anything regularly. Maybe one day running, the next day meditation and swimming after that.
They are all fun in one way or another.
Each type of routine or activity has a brief comment and an illustration. The colourful images are available on tees and other gift product. Do the routine - wear the tee.
Scroll through slowly and repetitively for maximum aerobic value and remember to hydrate regularly while taking part.
Body Mind Spirit
Bodybuilding
Some stickmen have a problem with body image. Young men feel they need to bulk up and take up bodybuilding to add some weight. What starts as a quest to exercise and keep fit can become an obsession.
The trick is to judge when muscles look toned and healthy before turning into a muscle bound freak show. Light weights and reps (repetitions) with a day off recovery between workouts is a good way to proceed.
The guys in the design won many competitions by eating chicken nuggets, doing some aerobics and possibly one or two short-cuts. Using cheats is a fast way to ruin your health. Take the right route and feel the benefits. And the burn.
They used to run mail-order courses for bodybuilding. Perhaps they till do.
Dear Mr. Universe,
I have completed your bodybuilding course.
Please send my muscles.
Fit
Fit has another meaning too. If someone "looks fit" they are an attractive person.
So get fit, keep fit and look fit!
Gym
"Feel the burn" they used to shout out.
Popular nicknames for gym addicts and workout freaks are gym bunny and gym rat.
Gym memberships are taken out in January, forgotten about by February and left active forever. This is a major support for gyms who could not survive if everyone either turned up to work out or cancelled their unused subscriptions.
Hot Yoga
Not hot in terms of fit ladies bending and stretching. although it is that, but hot in terms of the heat in the room.
The idea being to raise the temperature and allow the body to bend and stretch more.
Be prepared to sweat!
Hula Hooping
The idea is to keep the hoop revolving by shaking, twisting and generally moving your body around.
There is a knack to it - a certain wiggle that keeps the thing from falling to the ground.
The lady in the design shows how it should be done.
Jogging
Relaxing and good for you.
Note - small dogs may not be able to keep up. Large dogs may leave you behind. Try to match your speed with the requirements of the animal. Cats... forget it.
Pictured below is the Joggernaut - he just keeps on jogging.
Jogging Stickman
When I started drawing it was stickmen. Stickmen doing every thing I could think of. As my skills increased a little I moved on from stickmen. And then some years later I started coming back again.
Here's my Jogging Stickman.
Kettlebells
This is not weight lifting but a more rhythmic process which should not result in muscle strain.
A gentle activity often performed in groups during office lunch breaks with an instructor who provides the kettlebells.
Pilates
Invented by Joseph Pilates - hence the name!
Pilates is a hugely popular exercise and relaxation pastime. The advanced position in the drawing below is called the "Teaser".
Plogging
Light litter removal coupled with exercise and socialising - a perfect way to spend a couple of hours outdoors.
Skipping
Skipping is a cheap, do anywhere, cardio-vascular workout.
You just need a rope and some basic coordination.
Boxers do it plus other sports people too.
This is one exercise and fitness regime you can skip to your hearts content. I thoroughly recommend it.
Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga
The idea is the added relaxation of the lapping water and the extra balance required adds to the stress reducing enjoyment of yoga.
Swole Bodybuilding
"Swole" is the act of bulking up, as part of a keep fit bodybuilding regime. Had some fun myself creating the design for this.
Some sweat above a pair of shades indicating work and cool. The word "Swole" with the "o" as a target, because that's what we're aiming for. And a set of weights in the shape of a smile below, because it makes you happy.
Endorphins. And achievement too.
Trampolining
There can be accidents so understanding the rules and procedures are important for this fast growing activity.
Start off with some gentle bouncing and build up to somersaults.
Treadmill Running Machine
Resistance can be set, speeds altered and energy measured.
The endorphins released by exercise balance out the effort, time and cost of gym membership.
Running is good for you.
Weightlifting
It is amazing that some humans can lift so heavy a weight that the bar starts to bend.
Many of us would struggle to lift the bar alone although we can mostly lift ourselves off the sofa in order to visit the fridge.
Powerlifting competitors can lift their own body weight and then some. Ants can lift up to fifty times their own weight! If there's a message in that I don't what it is yet.
As a youngster I ordered a weight-lifting set for collection from a local store. The weights were in a single box. I had to struggle manfully out of the store trying not to show weakness. Almost put me off the whole business.
Yoga
And Relax
Phew. After all that exercise it's time for a rest interval. My recommended method is to watch some healthy sport on the TV, perhaps in a horizontal position with a packet of biscuits.
