Expressions and Terminology
Dialing - old phones had a circle of numbers. You put your finger in the number and turned the dial to enter it. Repeat for each number
Give someone a bell - ring them
Hang Up - terminate a call abruptly by placing the handset back on the phone
Landline - homes connected to phone network by copper cable
Nuisance call - where the purpose of the call is to troll you
Off the hook - when old-fashioned phone was off the hook it meant calls could not get through
Party line - share your landline with other users
Phone it in - do something with minimal effort
Reverse the charges - the other person pays for the call
