Political Art and Slogans
Our political masters thrive on fear and division. Protest should be the opposite using happiness and unity to make the point.
The best designs are those that people make for marches and demos using wit and art in equal measure. Pretty much everything else is a commercial corruption of the original idea. You know your slogan is finished when the models on the catwalk are wearing it as a fashion statement.
As my protest design collection has grown over the years so too has the number of bans inflicted on related merchandise. Phrases previously allowed are cancelled due to wokedom. Other designs fall foul of the need to shut down anything people can identify with or gather around. These are oppressive and worrying times for anyone who cares about personal freedom and the right to self-expression.
Here is a random AZ of designs with a little comment on the whys and wherefores of them.
Anarchy
The image is a fiery version of the simple graffiti logo spray painted wherever a wall is available.
I like the graphic and the anarchic sentiment as well. If only we could smash the system and start a utopia. The problem is someone always ends up in charge, and it begins all over again.
Anti Social Media
An anti social media design. Because networking with people you don't know about volatile subjects online is a fast way to achieve nothing.
Except irritation.
There is a feeling of the media algorithms herding you into an echo chamber you never really asked to join. Let alone the privacy issues of your preferences being stored forever in an electronic warehouse.
Clown World
Clown World is one of those. We are living in a world of untruths, governed by clowns and forced to sit in a circus of lies.
This is laughable, except the reality is dangerous. If we only have clowns in clown world who will speak up for us?
Defund The Police
Disagree Better
Disagree Better came to my notice after the tragedy of Charlie Kirk. An example of how political discourse has reached such heat that people on all sides are angry beyond reason. Whipped up by politicians and media players, both mainstream and alternative.
The idea is that people return to debate as a healthy way to express different opinions and challenge in a reasonable way. Sounds good to me.
Disobey
Perhaps the simplest of all political slogans, Disobey sums up a course of action. If you disagree with instruction from higher ups - take no notice. Go your own way. Eventually they will catch you, or give up trying.
Either way you have made a stand. Don't make it easy for them.
Drain the Swamp
Everyone knows how corrupt and infested the political system in any country is and how swamp like and slow moving.
The shame is that swamps are hard to get rid of. No sooner do you start clearing out the old one then a new swamp - worse than the one before - appears.
Why would career politicians and civil servants have it any other way? Their livelihoods depend on an expanding endless swamp.
Enough Is Enough
Whatever side you are on, the point of protest is often to stop something you disagree with. Enough Is Enough contains the essential soundbite style three word phrase. It protests against The Thing, whatever that may be. And it sets a time limit on it.
Stop it, right now, because enough is enough.
Hold The Line
This is a design for proud Americans who respect the flag, the eagle and all it stands for.
Luddite
It refers to the protesters against the Industrial Revolution - the first march of the machines in the 17th century when skilled workers were being replaced for more efficiency and profit.
The opinion of this site is that Luddites were heroes.
A new age is coming where every job that can be done by cheap labour or robot is taken from the traditional workforce.
Opinions differ on whether this leads to an income for all or mass unemployment and civil unrest.
It might be an idea to wake up.
Luddite is a term to value those crafts we have. To treasure and protect them against globalisation and worker exploitation.
Make It Make Sense
Ever feel like the world has lost it's mind?
Whatever side of the political spectrum you inhabit there are times when the media headlines seem to indicate a world out of control.
Make It Make Sense is a simple expression of exasperation. Somebody make some sense out of it.
Red Triangle
The banning of images, memes, books, thoughts and freedoms are exactly why more people should wear the red triangle.
We are all political prisoners now.
Resist
Resisting is a peaceful way to say no. Simply make life difficult for those who would seek to control you. March, strike, refuse to comply. All actions that are permissible and a way to build comradeship with your fellow resistance team.
There are few things as much fun as marching with a crowd of like-minded people.
Resist!
Rules For Thee
We have to stop travelling, gathering together, eating meat and generally enjoying ourselves while they carry on as before. We can enjoy their good fortune by pressing our noses against the restaurant window glass until moved on by their police force.
It's about the ruling class and the divide between rich entitled and the rest of us.
Stand For The Flag
The National Anthem is not the time to be protesting - it is a time to respect your country, citizens and society.
They Can't Arrest Us All
If enough people turn out to protest the state can't cope with it. They aren't enough police, vans, and cells to deal with the protesters.
That was truer in the days before mass surveillance. Now the arrests can take place weeks after the initial protest with an early morning knock on the door from your local police force.
However. There is still some truth to it. And strength in numbers is a good place to be when you're protesting.
Thin Blue Line
Whereas a bastardized rainbow flag covering all manner of sexual preferences is fine - nay compulsory - to be displayed in schools, churches and hospitals.
Ah well. The Thin Blue Line becomes a symbol of protest.
Uniparty
Who would vote for this animal which represents nobody - left or right.
Although this is an American themed design using the logos of the two parties, the principle applies across the world where democracy is practiced. The main parties as in Orwell's Animal Farm have become indistinguishable. When an occasional figure appears to offer a real choice they are hounded and victimised by coordinated attacks from the Establishment, Media and the usual State Actors.
This problem hurts both sides of the political debate equally. When the representatives no longer represent and alternatives are not allowed the voters are the losers.
World's Gone Mad
World's Gone Mad is a statement of exasperation and confusion. Similar in design and purpose to the Make It Make Sense above.
The End of My Protest
That is the end of this collection of political slogans and images.
The players in politics, corporates, the super rich and media seem to have the game so sewn up and controlled that it is hard to see hope for democracy, decency, openness and honesty.
The best way to fight back may be to ignore them. Without attention they are nothing. Switch the news off, don't use social media and try to celebrate the good things people can do.
